Surprise Visit from Papa!

Friday I took Gio on a surprise visit to the Bologna airport.  Paolo had decided last minute to come for the weekend so it was quite fun to see Gio's reaction when his papa appeared at arrivals!  He had flown directly from a week long field visit to Maldova and will have to return on Sunday back to Kyiv, but for 48 hours we have him!  Here are some photos from the beginning of our weekend...

Filling the pool.
Enzo stays far enough from the pool so as not to get his fur wet but close enough to lifeguard.
My dream car. I have told Paolo that this is what I want for my 50th birthday.  Do you think he will remember?
I love my rose garden.
Not a bad view from the pool.
We visit this excavator nearly every evening when it is no longer working.  Then we go home to read "Good Night, Good Night, Construction Site".
I arrived early to pick Gio up at school in order to get to the airport on time.  Here he is coming up the stairs from lunch.....

At the Bologna Airport.  Gio thinks we have come to watch airplanes (and eat ice cream, of course).
Gio always eats the chocolate filled bottom of the cone first.  Makes the rest of the cone oh-so-messy to eat.
Papa's Home!!!!  Enzo nearly had a stroke in his sheer excitement.
On a hike to explore a "dinosaur cave".

Here it is!  This natural cave goes 4 km into the mountain eventually leading to a river.  Gio wanted to head right in.  We held him off.

These kind of days show us how truly agile Enzo is on rough terrain.  Hence the "Mountain Dog" part of his name, we suppose.  He loved this cave as it was surrounded by very cold air.
Hiking back up the hill.
Enzo made it up the hill in seconds and so chomped on some sticks while he waited for the rest to arrive.
And then to a nearby spring to cool off...and get naked, of course.  This is Gio, after all.
Enzo even braved the river.  Hilarious to see him in water.  He delicately lifts each paw and then sets it down tentatively back in the water.  Makes for a very slow walk across.

Angelo (Paolo's best friend since childhood).
River crossed. Time fro some more stick destruction.
The following pictures were taken by Gio.....

I hope your weekend has been filled with ice cream, family, surprises and, perhaps, a chance to be naked in the great outdoors.
